A-MAiZE-ing!

The MAiZE!

We're Back!

The maze has a message from a different planet this year. Friends from afar have landed. Crop circles and their maker - an alien - are here to challenge you! The maze looks great this year and is definitely the most challenging design we've had yet. Our MAiZE Master has questions relating to the solar system to test your brain. We even have one planet yet to be named!

I personally love this year's maze. There are almost no straight lines, yet you know that you're walking in one of the many circles - and it's a challenge to get to the center of each circle. The Sun (that big open area in the center) is a fun place to hang out. My wife and I spent an hour in the maze, and only ran into each other once. Our conversation was a little surreal:

"Where were you?"
"Oh, I was in an alien eyeball. Where were you?"
"I got stuck in some letters, then found Pluto!"

It was a hoot.

This will be our fourth MAiZE. Last year's theme was VOTE (with an elephant and a donkey). 2003 featured a barn and apple tree to celebrate our "new old" barn. Our very first design was a flag billowing in the breeze with the words "United We Stand".

MAiZE Adventure Tours

GROUP SIZE: Virtually unlimited - there are 8 acres of corn with 2 l/2 miles of trails.

GEARED TOWARD: 4th grade and up.

This year's Maze is an alien and the crop circles his spacecraft left when landing. (Apparently his comrades left him here because we have not been able to locate the ship.)

As you can see above, there are 9 crop circles, a center circle, a small circle that is not part of a landing gear imprint, a semicircular end imprint, and the alien himself. The nine crop circle centers are the nine existing planets. The center circle is the Sun, the detached small circle is the Moon, the ending arc is our little surprise, and the alien is what he is.

Inside each of the circles is a wooden post with 4 color-coded questions about the subject. You will have an index card (colored) and a golf pencil to answer the questions of that color. This means that the questions have 4 different solutions depending on what color you have. This amounts to a 12-question astronomy quiz and a surprise contest for your students.

An area for picnicking is provided.

COST: $5.00 Per student- teachers and 1 chaperone for every 5 students are free.

DATES: Now through Halloween, Mondays through Fridays, starting 9:30 A.M.

This is the real thing. We worked with a company in Utah to develop our own design on a computer, then very carefully followed their directions to make it really challenging. But don't take out word for it, check out www.cornfieldmaze.com. They've been doing this since 1997, and have created more than 330 MAiZEs across the country. Some of their more amusing praise has been "Add fun to the list of more than 3,500 products made from corn." (American Small Farm magazine) and "Mothers tell kids not to play with their food, but an American farmer is inviting people to do just that." (The Western Producer)
